Planning a wedding is not an easy task. There are many different details to think about and there is a lot of work to be done. While you have several choices for music the most commonly chosen is either a live wedding band or a DJ. Hiring a live band will definitely give your reception some sizzle and pizzazz but how do you go about finding and hiring a wedding band?
One of the first things that you will want to look at is their performance. Many wedding bands live public gigs so you should be able to catch them playing somewhere. If not, make sure that you are at least grabbing a demo CD from them or hopefully a video of a performance of theirs as well. This will help you decide whether or not that particular wedding band is the best fit for your reception.
Many bands now have websites that you can check out. Their website is a great place to do some research on videos, photos, and musical tracks. This will allow you to get a better feel on how professional and talented the band is.
Often, you can read testimonials on the band’s website that will tell you of the experience that previous customers had working with them. The website will probably list the bands line up of songs, which you should view.
Go with a band whose sound many people will enjoy. For instance, something like progressive jazz music or heavy rock may be too specific a genre to go with. Something such as 70’s soul or disco music is entertaining for most ages.
Of course, there is also the consideration of the price of the wedding band. You want to make sure that all of the details are outlined in your contract. You will most likely be asked to turn in a non-refundable deposit with your contract so that they can feel safe reserving your date for you.
And then about a week before the wedding, you will want to make sure that you are giving the band a call, just to make sure that everything is still on track and in order. This might also be the time to make sure that they are allowing enough travel time so that they can set up without a problem.
Since the wedding band most likely traveled a good distance to come play at your reception, you will want to make sure that you are providing them with a meal. Also, make sure that you do both yourself and the band a favor by including them in on the timeframe of the various announcements and events so that they can work around those.
