Selecting A Wedding Band

Planning a wedding is an enormous task. There are so many things to think about and so much work to complete before the big day. One of the most important things is planning your wedding reception. There are so many details to think about when putting together that part of your day and one of the key elements is the music you will choose.

You can go several ways when it comes to music. The two most popular choices are a DJ or a live wedding band. Live music is great because it can liven up your reception, however what should you be looking for when hiring a wedding band for your event?

The best thing and actually the first thing you will want to do is try to watch the band perform live. Most of the time a wedding band will have public appearances along with private events and will happily tell you where you can preview their talent. You can also ask for a recording of their work such as a demo CD or video of a live performance. This should tell you whether the wedding band would be what you are looking for at your reception.

If the wedding band that you are considering has a website, you will want to research it. You should be able to see videos, photos, and listen to some of their music tracks. How well the website is set up can give you a big clue on how professional they are.

If there are testimonials on the website you will want to look at those as well. This will allow you to see exactly what previous clients have had to say about them and their music performances. If there is a repertoire, you will want to look at that as well.

Go with a band whose sound many people will enjoy. For instance, something like progressive jazz music or heavy rock may be too specific a genre to go with. Something such as 70’s soul or disco music is entertaining for most ages.

Once you have decided which wedding band you want to go with, you will want to make sure that there is a contract in place. This contract should outline a non-refundable deposit, the total price, the date and the time of the reception.

Within a couple of weeks of your wedding, you should call the wedding band to confirm that everything is still on target. Take care of the final details such as wardrobe is appropriate and they know the specific time to arrive and set up their equipment.

Do not forget that the band may have journeyed a long distance to perform at your reception, and it would be polite to give them a meal. Finally, make sure that you prove your wedding band a schedule of events for the night so they can follow along and play their music.
